Karla Cohen:
Launching new series

As an artist whose interests have changed and evolved, recently, I have been looking back at that transformation.  I am in the process of launching a new series of paintings that help capture my deep affection for the places I've been and it's influence on my life.  Anthony Bourdain said, “Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life - and travel - leaves marks on you. Most of the time, those marks - on your body or on your heart - are beautiful. Often, though, they hurt.”

Traveling is a process of experiencing life in a very literally disorienting way that is powerfully enriching.  The process of gaining, growing, learning and then mourning the change that takes place is central to my work.  My paintings are full of longing for other worlds and ways of living.
